AUBURN UNIVERSITY, Ala. – Three, two, one—blast off! Alabama 4-H invites 4-H members and their families to the United States Space and Rocket Center in Huntsville, Alabama Oct. 8 for a 4-H STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) Saturday. The event is from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and is filled with many activities and attractions, all in celebration of World Space Week.

Registration for this event is done through the 4-HOnline platform at v2.4honline.com. The deadline to register is Sept. 30. The cost for the 4-H STEM Saturday is $16 for youth and $21 for adults. Children 4 years old and younger can attend for free. Participants must complete registration for each person attending.

“Our hope is that the discounted rate for the museum opens the doors for more 4-H families to experience the Space and Rocket Center and learn more about STEM in general,” said Janet Lovelady, an Alabama 4-H Foundation regional agent.

The registration fee includes one museum pass and access to all the 4-H activities. However, it does not include the price of lunch. Participants are welcome to bring a packed lunch or purchase lunch at the venue. Participants are not permitted to bring food from outside vendors or restaurants to the center. Because of allergy concerns, participants are asked not to pack peanuts or peanut products.

Agenda and Activities

The check in time for the event is 9 a.m. at the Davidson Center for Space Exploration. There, participants will receive an arm band and the event schedule. The center’s museum has many attractions to explore including the following:

  • Davidson Center for Space Exploration
  • Featured Museum Exhibition(s)
  • ISS: Science on Orbit
  • Rocket Park
  • Military Park
  • Shuttle Park
  • G-Force Accelerator
  • Moon Shot

“In addition to what the museum offers, everyone can visit our 4-H stations,” Lovelady said. “We will offer a straw rocket activity next to the Saturn Rocket and a binary code bracelet activity inside the museum.”
