The Watershed Academy: Principles of Water Quality Monitoring, Planning, and Restoration is a Southern Region Water Quality program that incorporates Extension and Research expertise from several states into a hands-on training for natural resource professionals, non-profit representatives, local government representatives, and other interested stakeholders. The training gives an overview of watershed sciences, potential solutions, and public involvement strategies.

Instructors use case studies, field trips, and group assignments to teach about water quality assessment and watershed management approaches including conservation, protection, and restoration.

Workshop Description

Natural resource professionals have the opportunity to enhance their skills at this challenging workshop on the scientific nuts and bolts of watershed monitoring, planning and restoration. Participants delve in-depth into watershed characterization, hydrology, water quality monitoring and assessment, restoration options, and watershed planning. Skills gained at this workshop improve students’ ability to identify problems and solutions for their local watersheds.

Who should attend?

The Watershed Academy is designed for natural resource professionals, local watershed coordinators, project managers, consultants, and agency representatives who can benefit from a thorough scientific understanding of watershed processes, assessment, and techniques for protecting and conserving natural resources.

Workshop instructors are recognized experts in their respective fields of water quality monitoring, watershed planning, restoration, and stormwater management. They represent universities, state governments, and Extension programs from Georgia, North Carolina, Alabama, and South Carolina.

Local watershed representatives are invited to share success stories and lessons learned.
