QUESTION:
What are the health effects of too much copper in drinking water?
ANSWER:
The health effects of excessive copper in the human diet are stomach and intestinal distress, liver and kidney damage, and anemia. Persons with genetic disorders resulting in abnormal copper absorption and metabolism (Wilson or Menke disease) may be at higher risk than the general public for developing negative health effects from drinking water with higher than normal levels of copper.
