How Extension Markets its Products and Services

Marketing is how an organization attracts customers to use their products and services. As a non-profit organization, many of Extension’s products and services are free; however, the methods to attract potential customers are no different than a profit organization. The Alabama Cooperative Extension System may use any of these tools or mediums to market or promote Extension programs, services, and activities:

  • Brochures
  • Flyers
  • Websites (including APPs and mobile websites)
  • Public service announcements
  • Press releases
  • Radio and television via live or recorded interviews
  • Annual reports
  • Publications (fact sheets, articles, manuals, etc.)
  • DVDs
  • Social Media (Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, YouTube, RSS Feeds, Blogs, etc.)
  • Free advertisements
  • Local events
  • Online calendars
  • Displays
  • Signage

Communications & Marketing Staff

The Communications and Marketing (C&M) staff at both Auburn University and Alabama Agricultural and Mechanical University, are responsible for helping you to develop print and electronic marketing materials. While there are some products that are developed on behalf of the Alabama Cooperative Extension System, products for specific Urban Extension programs, for example, are developed solely by program specialists and C&M staff at Urban Affairs and New Nontraditional Programs. For print or electronic product development, please submit your project requests through Extension’s Data Dashboard.

Note: A short tutorial is available by clicking the ? icon on the Project Submission page for the Data Dashboard.
