Synopsis

This 50-page book is a colorful, fact-filled introduction to all aspects of beekeeping. It is appropriate for the beginner beekeeper, and it is also an appropriate review for the experienced beekeeper. Charts, tips, diagrams, and photos support the text. The book can aid the new beekeeper in developing hive management skills in a field where the abundance of information and instructions can be intimidating to the novice. Topics covered include the following: honey bee stinging behavior, bee races, beehive management, honey production and processing, queen management, hive manipulation, relationship between bees and the blossom they pollinate, honey bee diseases and pests, and external information sources on beekeeping. Specific instructions and advice are presented to help the reader decide if beekeeping is an appropriate project and, if so, how to proceed with starting a bee project. After reading Backyard Beekeeping, a person will have the necessary basic information to start a hive or, at least, to know what questions to ask and to whom they should be asked. It is easy reading on a rewarding topic! To order a copy of this book, go to http://www.aces.edu/pubs/forms/SpecificPubOrders/beekeeping.php .
