Dr. DEBORAH B. HILL

Extension Professor in the Department of Forestry at the University of Kentucky, Lexington, KY

B.S. in Biology from Tufts University (1964), Masters degrees in Elementary Education (Science) from Boston University (1968) and in Forest Science from Yale University (1973), Ph.D. in silviculture from Yale University (1977).  Also trained in agroforestry (certificate - Oxford University, England) (1989).




















Deborah has been responsible for forestry programs in 4H since she came to the University of Kentucky in 1981.  She has developed project materials for junior 4Hers and has implemented 5 junior forestry field days across the state on an annual basis.  She also has developed some materials for the senior forestry judging event, and has assisted with fielding an Invitational team for Kentucky for the past 20 years.  Aside from youth responsibilities, which also include facilitator training for Project Learning Tree and a week-long forestry leadership program for older teens, Deborah works with Christmas trees, non-timber forest products, agroforestry and international forestry.

Deborah has been a member of the Society of American Foresters since her student days and has been active in International, Urban and Agroforestry groups within the national organization.

She owns a 25-acre farm near the state capital, Frankfort, on which she is implementing  agroforestry techniques to demonstrate to other farmers.
