AUBURN / OPELIKA GARDEN TOUR
Sponsored by the Lee County Master Gardeners
Saturday, May 20, 10am– 5pm
Sunday, May 21, from 1pm - 5pm
A Thank You Note:
The Lee County Master Gardeners would like to thank everyone who
participated in our first garden tour. We had submitted a Project
Proposal to the Alabama Master Gardeners Association (ALMGA) requesting
seed money for the tour. Our thanks are due to ALMGA and the Regions Bank
of Auburn for their generous monetary support. We are grateful to
Blooming Colors, Rattling Gourd Gallery, Waid Garden Center, Out In The
Garden, Southern Crossing and Charter Bank of Opelika for selling advance
tickets. Thank you to channel 3 WRBL, channel 9 WTVM, channel 66 WSWS and
Maggie Lawrence with Back Yard Wisdom on WTSU for spotlighting the tour.
A special thanks to Chuck Brown with Lee County Extension and Shirley
Flora with Keep Opelika Beautiful for writing wonderful things about the
tour in their weekly news columns. A very special thank you to Donathan
Prater and William White for the wonderful front-page article on the
garden tour in the Opelika-Auburn News. We know this helped to promote
and get many visitors to tour these magnificent gardens. Most of all we
thank all of those who visited the gardens. We hope you found ideas and
learned about different plants to use in your own backyards. We heard you
loud and clear that you would like to do this every year. We’re already
preparing for next year’s tour in May, so mark your calendars.

1. Margaret & Floyd Stewart, Opelika
2. Cecile & John Morgan, Opelika
3. Nelda & Willie Boswell, Opelika
4. Carol & Gary Keever, Auburn
5. Becky & Ed Lewis, Auburn
6. Tasha & Tom Worden, Auburn
7. Mary & Tom Corley, Lee County
8. Patti & Jerry Householder, Lee~County
These eight gardens were chosen because each is unique and different.
Together they provide a variety of garden styles and sizes to inspire
local gardeners. Our goal is to provide an enjoyable and educational
experience that promotes gardening, shows examples of what can be grown in
our area and helps familiarize the public with the MG program and
services. There are many wonderful gardens to visit in Lee County. In this
year’s search alone, we found enough great gardens to have two garden
tours. We are hopeful that this will be the first of many such tours. The
possibilities are as endless as the ways in which people work to create
gardens.
If you would like to make a suggestion of a garden (including yours) to be
included in future garden tours (2007 or later), please contact any one of
us in the garden tour committee.
