Description: Thursday March 22 and Friday March 23, 2018 Lauderdale Co Extension Office. Florence, Alabama. What is ForestHER? This two-day workshop is an opportunity for women landowners to learn about forest management topics that are important to them in a relaxed, fun setting. Learn how to read maps and deeds, measure your forest trees, and market timber and non-timber forest products. This workshop is very "hands-on" with demonstrations, field tours, and opportunities to practice new skills. Where? 802 Veterans Drive, Florence, AL 35630 When? 8:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, March 22 8:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Friday, March 23 Who can attend? This program is especially for women who love nature and learning about the natural world. You don't have to own a lot of land. If you have just a few acres, this workshop is for you, too! What is the cost? The $65/person fee includes a workbook to keep; breaks, lunch, and dinner on day one; breaks and lunch on day two. Seating is limited, so preregistration is required. Extension Office is approximately 1 mile on left in front of Florence Lauderdale Coliseum. The 4-H sign marks the entrance.

Description: These classes are designed for the farmers who need to take the private pesticide applicator test in order to purchase restricted use products. However, we will be discussing chemical safety and sprayer calibration at this class, so anyone who sprays pesticides on a large scale will benefit from this training even if a restricted pesticide license is not needed. If you would like to attend any of these classes call the Extension Office of the County you want to attend and make your reservation as seating is limited in some locations. A fee of $20 will be charged for this training and testing. An additional licensing fee of $25 will be sent to the Department of Agriculture and Industries by the applicant. The licensing fee is not included in the training and testing fee. Please plan to pay with a check (checks are preferred) made out the Alabama Cooperative Extension System (ACES) in the amount of $20 or with the correct cash amount. Description: According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, there are over 36,000 chainsaw related injuries each year. This frequently used lawn and farm tool can be seriously dangerous if the proper precautions and procedures are not used. This Chainsaw Safety Workshop, held at Landmark Park (Dothan, AL) is targeted at the public, municipalities, loggers, industry professionals and anybody else that use chainsaws. Topics will include Safety Practices, Chainsaw Design, Ergonomics, Starting, Limbing & Bucking, Basic Felling, and include in-the-classroom and outside demonstrations. Lunch will be provided to all attendees. Seating is limited, so please pre-register with the Henry County Extension Office at (334) 585-6416.
