Description: On February 21-22, 2018, the National Peanut Festival Fairgrounds will be taken over by thousands of 8th-grade students from Alabama, Georgia, and Florida. Southeast Alabama Works will be hosting the third annual Southeast Worlds of Work Career Experience; formerly Wiregrass WORKS. This event will host approximately 6,000 8th grade students from Barbour, Butler, Coffee, Covington, Crenshaw, Dale, Geneva, Henry, Houston, and Pike counties from Alabama. Early, Miller and Seminole counties from Georgia along with Jackson, Holmes, and Washington counties from Florida. Students will take part in a fun, educational and hands-on experience they will not soon forget! The expo is a way for students to become familiar with a broad overview of high demand, high wage career opportunities available in the region. It is also designed to create awareness about exciting career options among students and educators that address the current workforce needs in this region.ACES will be represented with hands-on exhibits of agricultural, natural resources management, and health and nutrition careers.

Description: Tuesday February 20 and Wednesday February 21, 2018 Dewberry Lands. Lineville, Alabama. What is ForestHER? This two-day workshop is an opportunity for women landowners to learn about forest management topics that are important to them in a relaxed, fun setting. Learn how to read maps and deeds, measure your forest trees, and market timber and non-timber forest products. This workshop is very "hands-on" with demonstrations, field tours, and opportunities to practice new skills. Where? Dewberry Lands. 311 Bowden Ridge Road, Ashland, AL. Description: Join us for this hands on workshop to learn how to start seeds and cuttings for your summer vegetable garden. Each participant will leave with a tray of seeds and cuttings of 12 different varieties of tomatoes, peppers, and herbs for their vegetable garden (approx. 75 total plants). Plant varieties were chosen because of their ease of growing, high productivity, and great taste. Learn everything you need to know to grow them indoors and how to safely transplant them into your garden in the spring. Class is limited to 15 participants.
