Description: The Calhoun County Cooperative Extension is proud to announce they will be hosting Camp Cane Creek this summer at the Cane Creek Gardens! Participants will be taking : • Junior Master Gardener Classes • Junior Master Conservationist Classes • Arianna’s Nutrition Expedition Classes The camp will begin July 9th and go for four weeks ending August 3rd. The activities will begin at 8:00 A.M. and end at 3:00 P.M., Monday through Friday. The cost is $60 per week for kids ages 6-12. You can sign up your child to attend at the Calhoun County Extension Office, 1702 Noble St. Suite 108, in the Calhoun County Administration Building. Description: Due to the popularity of tomatoes and the issues that arise each summer, the Alabama Cooperative Extension System will conduct an advanced tomato workshop More About ‘Home Grown’ Tomatoes. This hands-on workshop will be held in Tallapoosa County on Friday, July 13th at the Charles E. Baily Sportplex Gym in Alexander City. The workshop will begin promptly at 9 a.m. and conclude around 2:30 p.m. This workshop will feature tomato variety taste testing, more on varieties and their culinary uses, and maybe a drip irrigation demonstration. Participants will also learn how to identify common tomato problems and pests. Those attending are encouraged to bring fresh samples of an insect, disease or other problem found on your tomatoes and 3 to 6 tomatoes of a named variety for entry in the tomato tasting. There is a $15 fee to attend; lunch is included. Registration must be made and paid by Friday, July 6th.
