This is day 2 of a two-day course. This 1.5 day short course is an introduction to GIS that explores the basics of ArcGIS/ArcMap 10 that are essential in completing forestry and other natural resource based planning and management activities. The course will focus on vector data but also provides introductory information about raster data layers. The format includes instructor led examples for students to follow at their individual computers with handouts including screen shots and tips for future reference. All examples will focus on real-world forestry and other natural resource applications for creating maps and working with various data layers. Students will be able to use ArcGIS to open, explore, edit, and manipulate shapefiles for a variety of forestry and other natural resource based activities. Users will learn how to query and export tabular data in addition to creating professional maps for various reporting opportunities. Users will also learn about various overlay tools and be able conduct simple analyses for natural resource based activities. |
