| Description: |
Small Farms Research Center (AAMU) in collaboration with the Alabama Cooperative Extension System presents Agricultural Risk Management & Business Development Training Workshop/Agritourism Tour.
Sustainable Agriculture/Agritourism Tour - Heritage Homestead's centerpiece is a reconstructed rural home place that was common in south Alabama from the mid 1800s through the mid 1900s. The home place tour and experience takes you back to a time when canning vegetables, washing clothes, and scalding hogs were all done in Grandma's black kettle over an open fire. The house is built in the southern dog-trot style with a front gallery. Heritage Homestead's beautiful forest is one of the most diverse privately owned family forest in America. More than 7 miles of nature trails mender around planted and natural regenerated stands of long leaf, loblolly and slash pine through hardwood bottoms crossed by clear flowing streams up into pure stands of upland hardwood to the top of sand hills with gopher tortoise, turkey oak, and wild flowers. |
