The Alabama Cooperative Extension System is announcing the Fruit & Vegetable Marketing Series for the area. The series is designed for fruit & vegetable producers with an interest in increasing their marketing knowledge and skills.
The topics to be covered include Farmer’s Markets, Roadside Stands and Markets, Pick-Your-Own Marketing (PYO), Community Supported Agriculture (CSA), Value Added Marketing, Organic Production, Season Extension Techniques, Record Keeping, USDA Programs for Fruit and Vegetable Products, Food Preservation and Food Safety.
Personnel from the Alabama Cooperative Extension System and other resource persons will provide relevant research â€"based information designed to educate producers about best management practices to market their fruits and vegetables. Upon completion of this program, producers will be able to adopt these efficient and effective management practices.
The entire series will require a commitment to attend all 4 sessions. Each applicant must be willing to make this commitment in order to receive the course materials and certificate of program completion.
Registration for the 2011 Fruit & Vegetable Marketing Series is now being accepted at the Marshall County Extension Office; the fee for the series is $5. Enrollment is limited; therefore get your registration in early. The deadline to register is Thursday March 24, 2011. The program will be held in the County Agents auditorium located on the ground floor of the Marshall County Courthouse in Guntersville, AL.

Each meeting will start at 6:00 P.M. All classes will be held at the Jon Archer Agricultural Center,
1070 Schillinger Road North. The cost of the Series is $100.00 per person, or $20.00 per session per person, which includes a notebook of publications and refreshments during the meetings.
