Topics Covered:
• Introduction to Global Positioning Systems (GPS) that explores the basics of GPS technology that are essential in
completing forestry and other natural resource based planning and management activities
• Learn how to use a professional grade GPS unit (TDS Nomad) to navigate and to map forest attributes such as roads, trails, and forest stands
• Hands-on experience with a GPS unit in the field and in the classroom exercises
• Introduction ArcGIS 9.3.1 to open, explore, edit, and manipulate shapefiles
• Learn how to create professional maps for various reporting opportunities.
• Using these skills students will complete a forest stand mapping project
