The Alabama Cooperative Extension System-Auburn University, the ALFA-Alabama Farmers Federation, and the Mississippi State University Natural Resources Enterprises Program will be hosting a 1-day seminar on developing nature-based income opportunities for private landowners. The seminar will be held at Bent Creek Lodge north of Butler, AL on Thursday, May 28, 2009 from 8:00am - 3:00pm. The morning session of the seminar will cover topics such as revenue potential from natural resource enterprises, examples of common enterprises, clientele expectations of wildlife enterprises, legal and liability considerations, how to build a nature-based business, and federal cost-share programs for habitat management. The afternoon session will be a field tour of the property with several stops at wildlife and enterprise management sites. Cost for "Natural Resources Enterprises: Developing nature-based income opportunities for private landowners" is $25/person and includes coffee, donuts, lunch, and binder of handouts. Topics will include vegetable gardening basics, soils and plant nutrition, raised bed gardening, container gardening, edible landscapes, and garden pests. The cost of the workshop is $5.00.
