First Annual Development & Recognition Meeting

In align with National Volunteer Week, April 24-30, 2006, Wiregrass Region 4-H recently held its first annual Volunteer Development & Recognition meeting at the Coffee County Farm Center. Volunteers from the region’s six counties were invited to bring their families for a night of food, fun and fellowship.

One volunteer from each county was selected Outstanding Volunteer of the Year for 2005-2006. Winners were awarded a plaque in honor of their hard-work, dedication and service to Alabama 4-H.

Topics covered included: the Alabama 4-H Volunteer Certification process, Alabama Volunteer Association, the state and regional volunteer forums, new project books and curriculum and of course club development and volunteer involvement.

How to Become a 4-H Volunteer?

As an adult volunteer, YOU can make a difference!

4-H is a "learning by doing" youth education program for boys and girls in kindergarten through 12th grade. It can reach "any kid ... anywhere ... any time" through events, camps, clubs, or activities.

More and more kids need the values, the skills, and the guidance that 4-H offers. But we need your help to effectively reach Alabama's young people.

Great Volunteer Opportunities:
• Help lead a community 4-H club
• Help start a special interest group
• Share your unique skills with kids
• Teach adults to teach young people
• Promote 4-H as an active, responsive organization in your community
• Help organize events and activities

The first step to becoming an Alabama 4-H volunteer is to complete the

Alabama 4-H Volunteer Application (PDF).

Once you have completed the application, submit it to your local county office. Come join the fun and help "make the best better."
