Houston County Meats Judging Team Recieves Reserve Champion Honors

The 4-H Meats Judging Team took Reserve Champion honors and earned the right to compete in the National Western
4-H Roundup Meats Judging event in Denver Colorado. Senior team members: Kara Clark, Robins Carothers, Reba Hicks, and Brad Baker will represent Alabama 4-H in Denver in January. These students attend Wicksburg and Rehobeth high schools and have participated in the 4-H Livestock program 8 years and Meat Science program 2 years.
Contestants were required to judge beef and pork wholesale and retail cuts, evaluate pork carcasses for quality, give oral reasons for their placings, and identify 30 retail cuts of beef/pork including the wholesale cut and cookery for each. The contest was held in the Lambert-Powell Meats Lab at Auburn Animal Science campus.
Additional members who competed in the Individuals Division were: Ryan Clark, Kemp Reaves, Hillary Anderson, Mary Logan Anderson, Sara Kriser and Madison Morrow.
Mr. Willie Durr, Co. Extension Coordinator, coached the team.
