Tennessee Yellow-eyed Grass
(Xyris tennesseensis) |
 Description: This species grows in association with ferns, willows, buttonbush, and bulrushes in seeps, springs, and on the banks of small streams. It is grass-like with 5 - 17 inch slender twisted leaves. The small pale yellow flowers appear in August and September.
Forestry Considerations:
The plant occurs in natural openings and prefers sunlight.. It can probably tolerate thinnings. However, site preparation, clearcutting and other forestry operations might be very damaging to this plant. Some herbicides may also adversely affect it.
Distribution by County: Found in Bibb, Calhoun, and Franklin Counties in Alabama. |
