American Chaffseed
(Schwalbea americana)
|
Description: A perennial herb with large purplish-yellow, tubular flowers. Flowering occurs from April to June. Occurs in open, moist pine soils and a fluctuating water table. This species thrives with frequent fires. Schwalbea is a hemiparasite (partially dependent on another plant as a host).
Forestry Considerations: Fire is essential to the continued survival of these plants. Drainage patterns should be maintained to help insure survival of these plants.
Distribution by County: Found only in Baldwin county at this time. |
