Harvest Timing

Issue:
Timing of harvest affects visual impact

Objective:
Minimize the effect harvesting has on visual quality

Considerations:

  • Seasonal conditions
  • Recreation activities
  • Specific local activities
Avoid:
  • Harvesting in highly sensitive areas during wet seasons of the year or during periods of high recreational use.
  • Extended periods between final harvest and reforestation.

Recommended Practices:

Level #1: Least Sensitive
Consider site specific conditions or events.

Level #2: Moderately Sensitive
Minimize harvesting impacts during wet conditions

Level #3: Most Sensitive
Schedule harvesting to take advantage of weather and ground conditions.
