Estate Planning

What is Estate Planning & Why is it Important?

Your estate plan should consist of at least three documents:

  • An Advance Directive to state your wishes for care if you become terminally ill or permanently unconscious and to appoint a health care proxy to make other medical decisions;
  • A Power of Attorney to appoint someone to manage your financial affairs if you are not able; and
  • A distribution plan that is specified in a will or a trust.

If you do not have an estate plan, it will be more difficult, time-consuming and expensive for your heirs to settle your estate.

In addition,

  • Who will take care of your minor children/grandchildren?
  • Who will own your property?

Planning ahead is much more efficient, inexpensive and thoughtful than burdening a family during a period of grief.
