Alabama Cooperative Extension
System’s
Video & Multimedia Technology Unit is Extension’s in-house solution for meeting our
specialists’ and counties’ multimedia needs, ranging from simple,
conventional photography projects, through satellite and videotape
delivery to the latest DVD authoring
and live Webcasting and on-demand streaming
technologies.
The unit’s capabilities are anchored in a
broadcast-quality on-location, field, studio, and post production
environment, which is interfaced with the campus educational television
network both by computer and fiber optic cable. Computer based digital
multimedia is delivered via the high speed multimedia servers on the
Auburn campus — Windows Media Server 2003, hosted by Extension, and
RealServer, hosted by Auburn University.
We have joined several technologies in
the unit’s multimedia lab, including streaming audio and video for
broadcasting over the Web, on-screen presentation software, graphics
applications, scanning applications and both linear and non-linear
video production technologies.
Additionally, the unit maintains a
large repository of cataloged Extension-related stock video footage
that can be incorporated into any of the formats of our media products.
This footage is available in the format of the client’s choice by
request. If specific footage is needed, our shooting staff can acquire
that footage either by requesting it through our consortium of
Extension video producers or by scheduling an on-location shoot with
one of our videographers.
For smaller productions not requiring
more than four specialists on stage simultaneously, we deliver live,
in-house, in-service training products in a professional format, all
with broadcast studio-quality production.
