Disaster Handbook

Produced by the University of Florida IFAS Extension, the Disaster Handbook provides educational materials about natural disasters. Spanish versions of the materials are available.

EDEN

The Extension Disaster Education Network is a federation of land-grant extension services and programs. EDEN provides technical assistance and support to local extension staff and communities as they prepare for or respond to any type of disaster. Experience and resources developed in one state are, through the network, readily accessible to other states.

FEMA

The Federal Emergency Management Agency is part of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. FEMA's mission is to "reduce the loss of life and property and protect the Nation from all hazards . . . by leading and supporting the Nation in a risk-based, comprehensive emergency management system of preparedness, protection, response, recovery, and mitigation." (FEMA home page)

Homeland Security

Established in 2003, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security is the hub for the national network of organizations and institutions involved in making the nation secure.

The Plant Diagnostic Labs provide diagnostic services. Alabama is a member of the Southern Plant Diagnostic Network. Additional resources are available through the  National Plant Diagnostic Network .

Talking About Disaster Guide

Produced by the Coalition of Organizations for Disaster Education, the Talking About Disaster Guide (revised, 2008) is freely available to professionals to help deliver consistent preparedness and safety messages to the public. A great tool for disaster educators, it contains tips on assembling disaster kits and taking other emergency preparedness actions.
