The Tallapoosa Watershed Project - Research and Outreach to Bridge the Gap between Science, People and Policy
The Tallapoosa Watershed Project (TWP) is a basin-scale research and outreach project of the Auburn University Water Resources Center. The TWP has implemented 15 interdisciplinary sub-projects by faculty and staff from seven departments and schools and the Alabama Cooperative Extension System. Year one of this three year project will focus on hydrological, socio-economic and ecological issues of the Saugahatchee Creek Watershed, including the development of a water budget and evaluation of the impacts of population, land use and climate change on water quality and quantity. Outreach specialists will develop practical applications of research findings for household and municipal water conservation, landscape design and improved water policy and management. The TWP will collaborate with local governments, state and federal agencies, business/industry and community groups in efforts to bridge the gap between science, people and policy throughout the Tallapoosa River Basin.
