Extension Activities
Providing science-based information on the wise use of coastal resources to the coastal community is at the heart of AUMERC's extension activities. AUMERC's Seafood Extension Specialist keeps local processors up to date on the newest developments by food scientists to ensure that Alabama seafood products are processed and packaged in the safest manner possible. AUMERC's Marine Extension Specialist informs the fishing industry of new and existing fishing regulations, as well as other pertinent information, through a monthly newsletter, the Sea Harvest News, and town meetings. The AUMERC office also plays an active role in educating the public with regards to environmental issues important to the citizens of coastal Alabama. AUMERC's Environmental Educators work closely with area schools and environmental groups to ensure that coastal Alabama retains its natural values for generations to come.
Coastal Alabama and Mobile Bay
The Auburn Marine Center provides informal education activities and information to numerous sectors of the Alabama coastal community. It provides information to fill gaps in knowledge of the business community, the environmental community, and the public in general.
