Lesson 5: Queen Anna's Banana Fruit Group
Time saving activity:
Have the classroom teacher complete the scales for the wall dragon. Make sure you leave a sufficient number of dragon scales for students. If it's OK with the teacher, have students cut out the dragon scale. If the teacher completes the scale activity, record 15 minutes on the “Teacher Monthly Time and Effort Record.”
Suggested food preparation:
1. Dried fruit: Use a variety of dried fruits (apricots, cranberries, raisins, bananas, apples, pineapple) for tasting.
2. Fruit-on-a-stick
Grapes
Pineapple chunks
Mandarin oranges
Dried apricots
Have the children assemble the fruit-on-a-stick using the above ingredients and a skewer. Note: Buy the long wooden (bamboo) skewers and cut in 3-4 inch lengths.
3. Jersey Juice
3 cans (6 oz.) frozen orange juice concentrate
7 ½ cups 2% milk
Combine ingredients in a blender container. Blend until frothy.
4. Orange Jubilee
2 cans (6 oz.) orange juice concentrate
2/3 cup instant nonfat dry milk
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Ice cubes to fill blender
Place orange juice concentrate into a blender container. Add instant milk and blend until mixed. Add vanilla extract and ice cubes and blend on high speed until smooth.
