Lesson 2: Sir Milkford and Lady Holly's Milk Group
Little D's Lesson 2 can take up to 60 minutes. If under a time constraint, the Little D's curriculum gives you ideas on how to split the lesson by completing the activities in two 30-minute blocks. See Lesson 2 in curriculum for directions.
As a reminder, it is in Lesson 2 that the introductory letter is sent home to parents. The letter and instructions for using the letter are available to you here and under FY2007 Administrative Forms.
Time saving activity:
Have the classroom teacher complete the scales for the wall dragon. Make sure you leave a sufficient number of dragon scales for students. If it's OK with the teacher, have students cut out the dragon scales. If the teacher completes the scale activity, record 15 minutes on the “Teacher Monthly Time and Effort Record.”
Suggested food preparation:
- String cheese, cut in half for “tasting” portion
- Variety of cubed cheeses with toothpick
- Orange Julius
- Cheese Stick Bugs

For bug body, use piece of string cheese.
For bug legs, stick straight pretzels into string cheese.
For bug eyes, add two raisins/dried cranberries.
- Pudding Shake
This is a fun and easy snack to do with kids. For a large class you would need to have 2 jars and 2 boxes of pudding. Kids also ask for more.
1 box instant pudding
2 cups milk
Put pudding and milk in plastic jar with tight fitting lid. Pass the jar around and let each child shake it a couple of times. Continue shaking until pudding is thick enough to eat.
Suggestion: Use banana pudding because it looks the same as vanilla. Show the students the box and ask them to tell what kind of pudding they think it is by just looking at the picture. Emphasize the importance of learning to read, so they can read pudding boxes, soup cans and other items at the store.
