Some Tips for Houseplant Care

  • Houseplants may be damaged by overwatering and poor drainage. If the draining is slow, re-pot your plants using plenty of broken pottery or crushed stone in the bottom of the pot. Always use a soilless mix with additional sand or perlite.
  • Turn and prune houseplants regularly to keep a good shape.
  • Houseplants need all the light they can receive during the winter and spring, but may need the protection of a thin curtain from direct sun in south or western exposures.
  • Don't place plants on the TV set. The television is one of the hottest places in the house!
  • To increase humidity around plants, place potted plants on a shallow tray (about 1 ½ - 2 inches deep) filled with pebbles. Pebbles always should be kept moist.
  • Group plants together and place in the bathroom or near the kitchen sink. This will increase the humidity level around plants.
