VIDEOCONFERENCE SET FOR JANUARY 20

AUBURN, JAN. 7, 2000---On January 20, a national videoconference will show examples of program tools and partnerships from across the country that address public concerns about work force preparation and development.

The conference, "Pathways to Work Success: Preparing for New and Changing Occupations," will air 12:30 - 2:30 p.m. CST.

The keynote speaker is Dr. William Charland, a writer and consultant on careers in the changing economy. Dr. Charland has assisted displaced workers, economic development agencies, career counselors and educators throughout the United States, help individuals manage their skills. He is the author of five books, including Life-work: A Career Guide for Idealists and the Complete Idiot's Guide to Changing Careers, which was one of the 10 best career books of 1998. He has served as founding director of the University of Denver Professional Career Development Program and the Chicago State University Without Walls. Some of his clients have included American Airlines, Lockheed Martin, U.S. West, Minnesota Teamsters Service Bureau, U.S. Department of Labor and the Communications Workers of America.

Also participating in the videoconference is Charles W. Laughlin, administrator, Cooperative State Research, Education and Extension Service (CSREES), Greg Crosby, co-chair, Workfrorce Preparation/Development Initiative for CSREES; Myron D. Johnsrud, ECOP executive director, National Association of State Universities and Land-Grant Colleges; and Judy McKenna, Colorado State University, co-chair, Workforce Preparation/Development Initiative.
