2004 Alabama Horse Fair Targets Southeastern Horse Enthusiasts 
       
Auburn, Jan 14, 2004 --- Look for hundreds of horse trailers on the roadways as the weekend of 
January 24 and 25 approaches.  That’s when Alabama horse lovers from throughout the state will  
gather at the Alabama State Fairgrounds and Garrett Coliseum in Montgomery for the Alabama 
Horse Council’s annual horse fair.  Last year’s event drew some 10,000 people from across the 
Southeast – horse owners and non-horse owners alike. 
	
This year’s Alabama Horse Fair promises to provide two solid days of family-friendly fun and 
educational opportunities.  Gates open at 9 a.m. both days. Highlights of the weekend include the 
following.
*	Nationally known experts from across the country representing all disciplines will 
providespecialized clinics for participants and spectators.
*	Kids Corner will feature a rodeo clown, face painting, Belvedere the trick horse, and lots 
of fun experiential learning.
*	The breed barn and parade of stallions will provide attendees an opportunity to see, pet 
and learn more about the many breeds of horses.

“It's tremendously exciting that so many top-notch trainers and riders will be a part the Horse 
Fair," said Dr. Cindy McCall, a horse specialist with the Alabama Cooperative Extension System. 
"It's a marvelous opportunity for young people, in particular, to learn from the best."
	
Vendors will be on hand selling everything from jewelry and cowboy boots to saddles and barns. 
	
Saturday night, the coliseum will be the scene of the Fabulous Equine Fair, an action-packed 
evening of fun and excitement featuring professional horse-oriented performances.  
	
Sunday afternoon will be devoted to Working Cow Horses, featuring top riders and horses cutting, 
reining and roping
	
On both days visitors will be able to see champion horses, mounted patrols, drills teams, special 
equestrian units, veterinary demonstrations, and horseshoeing demonstrations.
	
Admission for the horse fair is $5 per person per day and $10 per person for the Fabulous Equine 
Fair.  Children under 10 will be admitted to daytime events free of charge.	 
	
Nationally known clinicians for this year’s Alabama Horse Fair include all-around trainer and 
horsewoman Lynn Palm, demonstrating her bridleless technique; Linda Pigg, champion quarter 
horse trainer; Bobby Richard Jr., gaited horse world champion trainer; Sterling Graburn, sport 
horse and competitive driving champion; Michael Byatt, halter training expert; Arabian Western 
pleasure trainer Tommy Garland; National Vaulting Team coach Mary McCormick; and Drs. 
Tomas and Rebecca Giminez, demonstrating live horse/trailer rescue. 
	
The Alabama Horse Fair is presented by the Alabama Horse Council, a non-profit organization 
whose purpose is to unite Alabama’s growing horse industry. Proceeds from the Alabama Horse 
Fair are used to fund educational projects.
