Alabama Retiree and Relocation Conference April 19-20 in Dothan Auburn, April 8, 2004---The Alabama Retiree and Relocation Conference, “Road Map to Retiree Attraction and Relocation,” is set for April 19 and 20 at the Quality Inn on Ross Clark Circle in Dothan. The conference will provide an educational experience for retiree attraction practitioners in Alabama by having presenters who are recognized as leaders in the field and who can communicate their vision to the diverse audience. “Retiree attraction provides economic development opportunities for small and midsize communities as well as larger ones,” said Tom Chesnutt, a tourism specialist with the Alabama Cooperative Extension System. “Retirees as a group should not be stereotyped because they come from many different backgrounds, but as a whole, they are looking for secure settings, mild climates, quality health care and good people. Alabama has all of these,” Chesnutt said. The two-day conference will include workshops and panel discussions on Alabama Advantage, attracting military retirees, deciding on a market niche, implementing marketing and tracking strategies and businesses that benefit a community. An idea exchange is at which participants will share marketing ideas, is also scheduled. The cost of the conference is $85 per person and includes breakfast and dinner both days. Sponsors of the event are the Alabama Cooperative Extension System, the Dothan Area Chamber of Commerce, Center for Economic Development at Jacksonville State University, InfoCenter Alabama, the University Center for Economic Development at the University of Alabama and Regency Pointe.
