Elmore Named Alabama BCIA Outstanding County Agent Auburn, April 20, 2004 --- Josh Elmore received one of the Alabama Beef Cattle Improvement Association’s highest honors at its 40th Annual Meeting and Awards Banquet March 27 in Birmingham. He was named Outstanding County Agent for the year 2003. Elmore, who now lives in Clanton, served as the Alabama Cooperative Extension System county agent for Mobile and Baldwin counties from September 1999 to May 2003. “I was very surprised and pleased to be recognized for my work in south Alabama,” Elmore said. As county agent, Elmore was the local contact for the 31 members of the Alabama Beef Cattle Improvement Association located in those counties. Elmore added eight new members to BCIA in 2002 and five new members in 2003. “I really enjoyed being able to work with producers and all the BCIA programs from Red Wing records to heifer sales,” Elmore said. “Seeing producers improve their herds is a real rewarding experience.” After serving as county agent, Elmore was transferred to serve as the coordinator of Extension’s Alabama Beef Connection program. In this position, he teaches Alabama beef producers learn about the benefits of electronically identifying individual animals through ear tags that allow them to follow their cattle through the marketing chain. Elmore also assists with the Alabama BCIA Southwest Alabama Heifer Sale and promotes and participates in the Alabama Pasture to Rail program. “I couldn't have achieved this without the support of the Mobile County Cattlemen's Association, the BCIA producers in southwest Alabama, my wife Michelle and the support at Auburn,” Elmore said. Michelle Elmore is the coordinator for Alabama BCIA, which works closely with ABC.
