Satter to Open Annual NEP Meeting
AUBURN, Jan. 11---Ellyn
Satter, a therapist, author and lecturer, will be the keynote
speaker at the opening session at the Nutrition Education Program's
(NEP) annual meeting Jan. 30. She will conduct a workshop Jan. 30
from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. The annual NEP meeting is set for the Dixon
Conference Center on the Auburn University campus Jan. 30 and 31.
"We are thrilled to
have an opportunity to learn from Ellyn Satter. Her background,
credentials, and dynamic teaching abilities will benefit all in
attendance," says Sondra Parmer, Extension program manager for
NEP.
"Satter is a leader
in empowering nutrition, health and mental health professionals to
adopt sound approaches to feeding and eating. A popular speaker,
both nationally and internationally, Satter is known for her clear
and engaging explanations of normal and distorted eating and
feeding. Her books, journal and magazine articles, teaching
materials, seminars and media interviews have made her well-known to
parents and professionals as an authority on nutrition and feeding
of infants and children."
The Extension NEP
program helps food stamp recipients and those eligible for food
stamps to have healthier lifestyles by making better food choices
with limited budgets. NEP agents, agent assistants and program
assistants are located in all 67 Alabama counties and reach more
than 200,000 individuals annually.
In addition to NEP
employees, nutrition faculty at Auburn, Alabama A&M and Tuskegee
universities, teachers from area schools, and representatives from
WIC, the Alabama Dietetic Association and the Alabama Department of
Public Health will attend.
Satter will discuss
"Raising a Healthy Eater in Your Commmunity." She will
share topics that will help participants understand what it means to
be a healthy eater, how parents can raise healthy eaters and what
children need to be successful with eating.
Satter has authored
three books including Child of Mine: Feeding with Love and
Good Sense, How to Get Your Kid to Eat…But not Too Much, and
Secrets of Feeding a Healthy Family. In addition, she is a
holder of the Diplomat in Clinical Social Work and has a private
psychotherapy practice. She specializes in psychodynamic
psychotherapy and in the symptom management of eating disorders.
