"The Fly, Part II"

The phorid fly, an ancient enemy of the fire ant in South America, recently was introduced into the United States to do battle with the ants in the Southeast.  Alabama Cooperative Extension System Entomologist Dr. Kathy Flanders and Fudd Graham, coordinator of Auburn University's fire-ant control program, inspect a mound in which the flies recently were introduced.  Experts hope the introduction of the flies ultimately will lead to significant reductions of the ants throughout the Southeast.
