Southeastern Pecan Growers Association Convention to Feature Grower Participation

AUBURN, Jan. 16---The 94th Annual Convention of the Southeastern Pecan Growers Association is Feb. 25-27 at Perdido Resort in Orange Beach, Ala. It will feature a grower panel and several presentations by growers. (View Agenda)

"Pecan growers identify and relate to other growers," says Program Chairman Bill Goff, an Extension horticulturist with the Alabama Cooperative Extension System. "Ideas from outstanding growers provide practical knowledge that can be put directly to use, so growers appreciate the sharing."

There will be a panel discussion with outstanding growers from outside the traditional Southeastern region and presentations by growers both on marketing and production.

The program also will feature outstanding pecan scientists from several states, including Darrell Sparks, Bruce Wood, Paul Bertrand and George Ray McEachern. Prominent among the topics discussed will be fall fertilization and management of nitrogen.

For the first time in history, the National Pecan Shellers Association will meet jointly at the same location with the Southeastern Pecan Growers. Sue Taylor, director of nutrition communications with the Shellers Association, will address the growers on communicating the healthfulness of pecans.

Reservations at Perdido Resort can be made at a special rate through Feb. 1 by calling (334) 981-9811. Further details about the convention can be obtained from Beverly Wilson, executive secretary of the Southeastern Pecan Growers Association at (229) 436-5654.
