Alabama Offensive Against Sudden Oak Death Syndrome

Sea Specialties Brand Recalls Some Thin Sliced Smoked Atlantic Salmon Because of Possible Health Risk

Auburn, March 23, 2004 --- Sea Specialties Inc. of Miami, Florida is recalling its 4 ounce, 8 ounce, and 16 ounce packages of Sea Specialties brand hand packed thin sliced smoked Atlantic salmon because they have the potential to be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes, an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Chambers County 4-H'er Wins State Steer Show

Katelyn Allen, a 14-year-old 4-H club member from Chambers County, won the 81 st State Steer Show at the Alabama Junior Livestock Expo in Montgomery. More than 200 young people from 45 Alabama counties showed cattle, sheep and goats as part of the five days of competition.  (More...)

Austin High School’s Ultimate Survivors Win LifeSmarts State Competition

Normal, AL—For the second year in a row, the Ultimate Survivors of Austin High School in Decatur outwitted, outplayed and outlasted their opponents to become the state LifeSmarts champions March 3 at Alabama A&M University.
