Fort Clover to Provide “R&R” for Alabama Military Kids

be tough being a kid these days. The challenge is even greater for
hundreds of Alabama’s young people who have parents deployed in the
National Guard and Reserves. But for 100 of these young people,
relief – what the military calls “R&R” – is on the way.

emergency rule to stop the shipment of some nursery plants from
California and other states into Alabama in hopes of reducing the

Salmon Because of Possible Health Risk

23, 2004 --- Sea
Specialties Inc. of Miami, Florida is recalling its 4 ounce, 8
ounce, and 16 ounce packages of Sea Specialties brand hand packed
thin sliced smoked Atlantic salmon because they have the potential
to be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes, an organism which
can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children,
frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. (More...)

County 4-H'er Wins State Steer Show
Katelyn Allen, a 14-year-old 4-H club member
from Chambers County, won the 81 st State Steer Show at the Alabama
Junior Livestock Expo in Montgomery. More than 200 young people from
45 Alabama counties showed cattle, sheep and goats as part of the

the second year in a row, the Ultimate Survivors of Austin High School
in Decatur outwitted, outplayed and outlasted their opponents to
become the state LifeSmarts champions March 3 at Alabama A&M
University. The team will represent Alabama at the National Consumers
League’s national LifeSmarts competition in Chicago April 24 through
