Cotton
Field Day Slated for Late June
Auburn,
June 4, 2002--- Alabama
cotton producers will have the opportunity to hear the latest in
cotton research at the Alabama Cotton Field Day Celebration, slated
for 5 p.m. June 25 at the Prattville Experiment Field.
Dale Monks, a cotton
specialist with the Alabama Cooperative Extension System (ACES),
says growers will have the opportunity to hear from Extension's
cotton team about the best growing strategies and tour cotton
research plots.
"The cotton team
will give an overview of the crop's status, including weed, disease
and insect problems," says Monks. "In addition, growers
will be able to examine the various research plots and learn more
about new cotton varieties as well as ways to battle weeds and
seedling disease."
The Expo, which is being
sponsored by the Alabama Cotton Commission and ACES, is being held
in conjunction with the Conservation Tillage for Sustainable
Agriculture Conference.
"We expect a number
of cotton producers to attend the Sustainable Agriculture
Conference," says Monks. "We think by hosting a field day
specific to cotton as part of the conference will allow farmers to
learn as much new information as possible without asking them to
take more time away from their fields and farms."
