Ronald Brown Named Executive Director for the Association of Southern Region Extension Directors

MSU, July 6---Ronald Brown, former director of the Mississippi State University Extension Service, has been appointed the first executive director for the Association of Southern Region Extension Directors, effective July 1.

As executive director, Brown will promote efficiency and effectiveness of the Cooperative Extension Service in 13 Southern states through multistate activities. This regional organization is headquartered on the campus of Mississippi State University.

"Agriculture and natural resources, rural conditions, families and youth, and communities are changing rapidly. At the same time, science and technology continue to advance," Brown said. "All of these factors serve to encourage me in realizing the great opportunities we have for making Extension even more valuable to society."
Brown will work with the directors of Extension from the Southern region to expand multistate Extension programs through electronic technology and the sharing of resources.

"Extension is poised to be a leader in providing research-based information in new ways to broader audiences and to do it more efficiently," he said.

Brown retired as director of the MSU Extension Service the end of June, a position he has held for the past six years.
