Chilton Regional Research and Extension Center Hosts Expo
Auburn, July 29, 2003 --- You can learn how to boost your home
fruit production as well as how to deal with nuisance wildlife at the
Chilton Regional Research and Extension Centers Annual Expo. The
Farm, Home and Wildlife Expo will be held
August 9 at the 160 acre facility near Clanton.
This year’s activities will include traditional
educational events on production of fruits and vegetables but will
also highlight wildlife and wildlife management.
“We’re gearing up for a big day with more than a dozen
topics being covered,” said Bobby Boozer, a horticulturist with the
Alabama Cooperative Extension System. “The field day begins at noon
with programs running concurrently through the afternoon. That means
you don’t have to miss a thing.”
Experts will discuss home horticulture,
fruit production, production of kiwi, bunch and muscadine grapes, farm
pond management, backyard wildlife, dove biology, deer food plot
management, managing wildlife as pests, retrieval dog demonstations
and skin cancer awareness.
Visitors will also have the chance to taste a wide variety
of fruit grown at the center.
“If you can’t eat it, we don’t grow it,” said Jim Pitts,
center superintendent. “There will be peaches, figs, pears, apples,
watermelons and cantaloupes.”
At
the end of the day, there will be a free hamburger supper and a string
band for entertainment.
