Promising New Variety – With One Caveat

Auburn, August 12, 2003 --- An Alabama Cooperative Extension System cotton expert says one new cotton variety under study offers great advantages to Tennessee Valley producers, but with one proviso.

The new variety, known as Deltapine 444 BT/RR, is an early maturing variety under study at the Tennessee Valley Research and Extension Center in Belle Mina.  (More...)

Extension Program Providing New Resources for Area Head Start Programs

Auburn, August 8, 2003 -- Ida Murphy, a teacher with the Head Start Program in Florala, is already planning how she will use the new lesson plans on hand washing in her classroom.  Professionals from the Alabama Cooperative Extension System’s Henry County office trained Murphy and more than 45 other Head Start colleagues on how to use a number of resources from Alabama Cooperative Extension Nutrition Education Program (ACENEP).  (More...)

Morgan Assumes International Office

Auburn, August 6, 2003 -- Dr. Virginia Morgan, Alabama Cooperative Extension System co-leader for communications, recently was elected vice president of the Association for Communication Excellence.

After completing her term as vice-president, Morgan will serve as the organization’s president-elect from 2004 to 2005, then as president from 2006 to 2007.  (More...)

Coosa County 4-H’ers Dominate National Forestry Competition – Again

Workforce Development Web Site Wins Innovative National Program Award

Normal, AL – An Extension Community Resource Development Specialist recently accepted the Innovative National Program Award by the Association of Extension Administrators in Atlanta, GA.

Rosalie Lane, Extension Urban Affairs specialist, was honored for her collaborative work with partner Ray Ali, associate director, Department of the Land-Grant Programs at West Virginia State College, for the WECAN4U Web site (www.WECAN4U.net). WECAN4U is a workforce employment education, and financial literacy Web site. Although it is designed specifically for citizens of Alabama and West Virginia, the site can be valuable to diverse audiences internationally. (More...)

31st Alabama State 4-H Horse Show Underway

Auburn, July 9, 2003 --- More than 225 4-H club members representing 30 counties are competing at the 31st Alabama State 4-H Horse Show at the Garrett Coliseum Complex in Montgomery. Participants are competing in one or more of 75 show classes. The show began Tuesday and continues until Friday.  (More...)

Extension Economist Receives National Recognition

Auburn, July 8, 2003 --- Dr. James Novak, Alabama Cooperative Extension System economist and Auburn University professor of agricultural economics, has been chosen president-elect of the American Agricultural Economics Association, Extension section.  He also received the Farm Service Agency/USDA Administrator's Award for his work with the Farm Bill Education Program.  (More...)
