Garfield Print Raises Money for Alabama 4-H

During the final week of December 2001, a Garfield limited edition print signed by Garfield creator Jim Davis was up for auction on eBay, the Internet's leading auction site. After more than 200 visits and 16 bids, the 15" x 35" print sold for $910.

What does that mean for Alabama 4-H? A quick and easy profit of $455.

It's all part of a unique fund-raiser from National 4-H Council as part of the celebration of 4-H's 100th birthday.

Fifty-four numbered prints were produced and were hand signed by Davis, a former 4-H'er. Fifty-three of these prints are being auctioned on eBay. The auctions began in November 2001 and will continue through November 2002.

Each week, a different 4-H state foundation receives one-half of the selling price (highest bid) of the print.

The proceeds will be used to support the 4-H scholarship fund. This fund provides assistance to youth involved in Alabama 4-H who need help in paying for camp and project books and supplies. It also recognizes and supports 4-H'ers who represent Alabama 4-H in national and international 4-H events and competition.
