GOLDKIST FUNDS 4-H AWARDS PROGRAM

AUBURN---GoldKist has presented 4-H with funds to continue the 4-H Volunteers for Success awards program.

Each district winner received a $250 award and registration funds for one volunteer to attend State 4-H Congress. Coosa County, the state winner, received a $500 award designated for the volunteer leader program and a Regional 4-H Volunteer Leaders Forum scholarship for one volunteer leader.

The six district winners for 1999 are Calhoun, Choctaw, Coosa, Dallas, Perry and Pike counties.

The program offers awards in two areas of excellence. County 4-H programs are judged on effective planning for volunteer involvement; creativity in finding and recruiting adult volunteers; creativity in recognizing volunteers for their contributions of time and abilities; utilization of volunteers in roles previously assigned to Extension staff; establishment of an effective county volunteer management program; and addition of new 4-H programs handled entirely by volunteers.
