GERMAN AGRICULTURAL LEADERS TO VISIT ALABAMA IN NOVEMBER

AUBURN, AUG. 6---Twenty-two farmers and agricultural leaders from the Havelland Farmers Association near Berlin will visit Alabama Nov. 1-9.

According to George Young, coordinator of International Programs for the Alabama Cooperative Extension System, this is the fifth year of the agricultural study tour exchange program.

The major purpose of the exchange is to share how agricultural needs and opportunities are being addressed global agriculture faces change, says Young.

Nineteen Alabama farmers and leaders toured and studied Hungarian and German agriculture in June. They saw firsthand the progress farmers have made in their transition from the Communist system of agriculture to privately owned farms operating in a market-driven economy.

Another delegation from Alabama is expected to visit Central and Eastern Europe next year.

Anyone interested in working with the German delegation when they visit Alabama in November, or in taking part in the 2000 agricultural study tour, should contact George Young.
