AUBURN, JULY 9---The Alabama Civil Justice Foundation is partnering with the Alabama Cooperative Extension System to sponsor a power-packed educational youth leadership program July 14 for 4-H youth throughout Alabama. The leadership conference will be held at Alabama A&M University. The conference theme is "Soaring on the Wings of 4-H Pride."
Eric Chester will kick off the conference with a workshop on youth leadership. Chester has devoted his life's work to motivating youth to be contributors to the building of a strong America. His passion is helping others (particularly young people) reach their true potential.
The rest of the day will be devoted to specific skills building. Topics, such as the art of decision-making, critical thinking, the effective use of parliamentary procedure, keys to teamwork and effective communication will be discussed. Participants will have a chance to get involved in case studies, group work and strategic planning. Agents, volunteers and leaders from government, business, education and other walks of life will help facilitate this unique learning experience
A taped radio and television forum also is planned so young people can discuss and recommend strategies for addressing crime and violence in our society. The forum panel includes Mr. Joe Lewis, director, Alabama FBI; Rev. Paul Hollman, director, Birmingham division of youth services; Mr. Jesse Seroyer, senior investigator, Alabama Office of the Attorney General; and Ms. Dorothy Singleton, Huntsville YMCA.
An open mic session in the afternoon will give participants an opportunity to reflect on their learning experiences. At the conclusion of the session, State Senator Zeb Little of Cullman, State Representative Mike Hubbard of Auburn and State 4-H Leader Dr. Warren McCord, will challenge participants to put their new-found skills into action when they return home.
