Become an Outdoors Woman

Auburn, Aug. 10---The Alabama Department of Conservation invites women to "step outside" for the 13th annual Becoming an Outdoors Woman workshop.

The event is set for Oct. 5 -7 at the Alabama 4-H Center in Columbiana. Becoming an Outdoors Woman provides an opportunity for females 18 and older to learn outdoor skills not only associated with hunting and fishing but also those useful for many other outdoor pursuits. The three-day workshop, which is offered twice a year, offers information, encouragement and hands-on instruction.

More than 50 outdoor skills courses are offered. Some of these include hunting, scuba diving, rock climbing, nature photography, bow hunting, deer hunting, duck hunting, upland game hunting, reading the woods, getting your bearings, camp cooking, backpacking, and motor boat handling. Other activities include eggshell art, frontier skills, mountain biking, and pistol and shotgun shooting.

Registration for the workshop is $150 and covers all meals, lodging, program materials and instruction. All demonstration equipment will be provided. Only 140 spaces are available for the workshop, so interested women are encouraged to register early.

For more registration information on Becoming an Outdoors Woman, contact the Alabama Department of Conservation at (334) 242-3151, or go to the following Web site and download a registration form: http://www.dcnr.state.al.us/administrative/ie/Education/step%20outside/bow.html.
