URIC Takes a Look at Alternative Energy Sources

News reports, television commercials and magazines are full of messages on how America can reduce its dependency on foreign oil and protect our environment. That’s why Reducing Oil Dependency Through Alternative Energy Sources is a timely theme for the 2009 Urban-Rural Interface Conference. The conference will be Thursday, April 23 from 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the James I. Dawson Building Auditorium on the campus of Alabama A&M University.

Dr. Kepler Euclides Filho, general director of EMBRAPA, also known as the Brazilian Agricultural Research Corporation, will deliver the keynote address and tell conference attendees why Brazil is a world leader in developing agricultural biofuel. Dr. Filho will be joined by a group of national scientists, researchers and speakers who will provide information on developments in alternative energy sources and what is currently available for use by national and global consumers.

“I want conference participants and especially Alabama residents to learn about energy technology and products available in the United States,” says Dr. Maria Leite-Browning. Dr. Browning is chairing the URIC along with research assistant professor Dr. Ernst Cebert at Alabama A&M University.

After speaker presentations, participants will have a chance to view exhibits and demonstrations.

The cost of admission and lunch before April 10 is $40; late registration is $50. Onsite registration begins in the James I. Dawson Building lobby at 8 a.m. on April 23.

To register, contact Susan Glover at (256) 372-4946. For general information, contact Dr. Browning at (256) 372-4954, Dr. Cebert at (256) 372-4243, or visit http://www.aces.edu/urban/.

The Urban-Rural Interface Conference is held each year in conjunction with the School of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences Ag Week.
