Poinsettias Brighten the Holidays

Poinsettias are the classic holiday flower, coming in a wide variety of colors and sizes. People have used them to decorate homes during the holidays for years. But a horticulture expert with the Alabama Cooperative Extension System says by following a few basic guidelines, people can enjoy their poinsettias longer.
Selecting Right Plant
Dr. Raymond Kessler, an Extension horticulturist, says choosing the right poinsettia to bring home is the first consideration. Choose a dense, well-branched plant. A poinsettia in a six-inch pot should have at least five sets of colored bracts. Bracts are not flowers, but modified leaves.
