Extension to Conduct Youth Empowerment Conference in June
The Alabama Cooperative Extension System's Urban Affairs & New Nontraditional Programs unit will conduct the first Teens and Tweens Empowerment Conference June 30 through July 1 at Alabama A&M University. This event is a part of the Extension team project titled Teens Making Impact.

The Teens and Tweens Empowerment Conference is a two-day event filled with fun, educational and leadership activities for youth ages 9 to19, as well as educational workshops for parents, volunteers and group leaders. Conference workshops include community service projects, Internet safety, physical fitness, nutrition, career exploration and teen issues.
"This program is designed to empower youth to make positive changes in their lives and in their communities," says Kimberly Burgess, event coordinator and Extension youth and volunteerism specialist. "I was involved in summer enrichment programs at A&M more than 20 years ago. Extension youth programs are just as critical today in developing leadership and good decision-making skills as they were when I was a youth."
Registration for the Teens and Tweens Empowerment Conference is $55 per person and includes lodging (Alabama A&M University residence hall), meals, activities and a t-shirt. All participants must register through an Extension agent or an adult volunteer leader. Registration documents and payment are due June 11.
