Debra Ward Receives National CFLE Designation
Debra Ward, an Alabama Cooperative Extension System regional agent based in Chambers County, recently received the National Council on Family Relations’ Certified Family Life Educator designation.
The CFLE designation recognizes professionals in the field of family studies as qualified family life educators. The credential denotes that Ward has a proven background and knowledge in 10 family life content areas including families and society, internal family dynamics, human growth and development, human sexuality, interpersonal relationships, family resource management, parent education, family law and public policy, ethics, and family life education methodology. She completed 90 educational hours and presented a portfolio addressing 10 family content areas with regard to education, additional training and experience before receiving her certification.

Ward, a native of Chambers County, received a Bachelor of Science in Family and Consumer Science from Jacksonville State University and presently pursuing a Master of Science in Adult Education at Auburn University. Employed with Extension for 13 years, Ward has worked in Nutrition Education Program and Family and Consumer Sciences. She is the daughter of Lula Mae Huguley and a mother of three daughters.
More than 1,300 family life educators have received the CFLE designation since 1985. The National Council on Family Relation’s CFLE educators work in a variety of settings including service agencies, mental health centers, colleges and universities, community education, secondary and elementary schools, military family support centers, corporations, family planning agencies, hospitals, day care centers, faith-based organizations, education departments and private practice.
