Alabama Homemakers and Community Leaders started in 1930 as the Tomato Club for youth. These clubs resulted in parents getting involved in growing and harvesting tomatoes because of the huge harvest.

Today, this group of dedicated ladies stays abreast of current issues and helps Extension agents and educators with health programs such as breast cancer awareness, diabetes training, pandemic flu and emergency preparedness. They also provide assistance to schools by tutoring, teaching etiquette, manners, sewing and crafts.
